1. Introduction
Jeebraac (“we”, “our”, or “us”) is a personal finance tracking application that helps users manage their finances by automatically parsing SMS notifications from mobile money providers and banks. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use the Jeebraac mobile application (“the App”).
By using Jeebraac, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Personal Information (During Registration)
- Full name (first and last name)
- Email address (used for account verification via OTP)
- Phone number
- Location (country and state — used to configure regional financial providers)
2.2 SMS Data
Jeebraac requests permission to read incoming SMS messages (RECEIVE_SMS, READ_SMS). This permission is used exclusively to identify and parse financial transaction notifications from mobile money and banking providers (such as EVC Plus, eDahab, Golis, Premier Bank, Dahabshiil Bank, IBS Bank, and others).
- SMS messages are read and processed entirely on your device.
- No raw SMS content is currently transmitted to our servers. In the future, with your explicit consent, unrecognized SMS formats may be shared with our servers to improve parser accuracy.
- Only derived, structured transaction data (amount, transaction type, date, provider identifier, and merchant/counterparty name) is extracted and stored locally.
- Non-financial SMS messages are ignored and never stored.
2.3 Financial Data
- Wallet names, types, balances, and provider details
- Transaction records (amounts, types, dates, categories, counterparty names)
- Balance snapshots and account statements
- Entrusted obligation records (money held on behalf of others)
- Custom categories and beneficiary mappings
2.4 Device Information
- A randomly generated unique identifier (for authentication and sync)
3. How We Use Your Information
- Transaction parsing: We read financial SMS on-device to automatically create transaction records, reducing manual data entry. You can also record transactions manually.
- Financial overview: We aggregate your wallet balances, spending, and income into a unified dashboard with analytics and categorization.
- Account authentication: Your email is used to send one-time verification codes (OTP) during registration and login.
- Cloud sync (optional — planned feature): In a future release, you will be able to opt in to sync transaction and wallet data to our servers for backup and multi-device access.
- App configuration: The App periodically downloads updated parsing rules and category definitions from our server to ensure accurate SMS parsing.
- Notifications: We use on-device notifications to inform you about new transactions, categorization requests, and balance alerts.
4. SMS Data Handling
Because Jeebraac reads SMS messages, we want to be completely transparent about how this data is handled:
- SMS reading is limited to messages matching known financial provider patterns. We do not read or store personal, social, or non-financial messages.
- All SMS processing happens locally on your device. In the future, with your consent, we may transmit anonymized SMS format samples to improve transaction detection accuracy.
- The App uses SMS data solely to provide the core finance-tracking functionality. SMS data is never used for advertising, marketing, or profiling.
- You can revoke SMS permission at any time through your device's Settings. The App will continue to function, but automatic transaction detection will be disabled.
5. Data Storage and Security
5.1 Local Storage
- Financial data is stored locally in a private application database accessible only to Jeebraac.
- Sensitive credentials (such as your PIN) are stored using Android's EncryptedSharedPreferences, backed by the Android Keystore for hardware-backed key protection.
- Access to the App is protected by a user-created 4-digit PIN.
5.2 Data in Transit
- All communication between the App and our servers uses TLS 1.2 or higher (HTTPS).
- Cleartext (unencrypted) network traffic is explicitly disabled in the App's configuration.
5.3 Cloud Storage (Planned Feature — Not Yet Active)
- Cloud sync is a planned feature that will be optional and user-initiated.
- When available, data will be encrypted before transmission and used solely for backup and multi-device sync.
6. Data Sharing and Third Parties
- We do not sell your personal or financial data to any third party.
- We do not share your data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.
- We may use trusted service providers to operate the App (e.g., hosting infrastructure, email delivery for OTP). These providers process data only on our behalf and are contractually bound to protect your data.
- We may disclose data if required by applicable law or legal process.
7. Your Rights and Choices
- Access: You can view all data the App has stored about you directly within the App.
- Deletion: You can request complete deletion of your data at any time. The App provides a “Delete All Data” function that wipes both local and cloud-stored data.
- Permissions: You can revoke SMS and notification permissions at any time through your device's Settings.
- Export: You can export your transaction data from within the App.
- Opt out of cloud sync: You can use the App entirely offline without syncing any data to our servers.
8. Data Retention
- Local data is retained on your device until you delete it or uninstall the App.
- Cloud-synced data is retained until you request deletion or delete your account.
- Account data (name, email, phone) is retained for the duration of your account. To delete your account, contact us at the email address below.
9. Children's Privacy
Jeebraac is not intended for use by children under the age of 10. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 10, we will delete it promptly.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will notify you through the App or by other appropriate means. The “Effective Date” at the bottom of this page indicates when the policy was last updated.
